29-07-2023, THE FIRST BUDS ARE VISIBLE, A GOOD REASON TO OPEN OUR ASSORTMENT ON OUR WEBSHOP
While the south of Europe has been suffering from very high temperatures in recent weeks, summer hasn't quite arrived in the Netherlands yet. After a cool spring, we experienced a long period of dry and sunny weather. However, now it has been too cold and dark for this time of the year for weeks.
This is actually very beneficial for plant growth, as there are no excessively high temperatures or too much light in the greenhouse, making it easier for everything to grow. However, from experience, we know that a warm and sunny summer often leads to good bud formation. So, I wouldn't mind having some beautiful summer weeks ahead, as I believe it would be better for good bud formation.
In the past weeks, we received a lot of meristem plants from the Floricultura laboratory, which we potted, and we hope to receive the last 10,000 plants within a month.
Furthermore, the plants we potted in February and March are growing well. The first roots are now reaching the sides and bottom of the pots. This is always something we like to see, as from this point, root growth often accelerates.
In the plants that are supposed to bloom this season, we can already see the first buds in the ones we kept warmer. We just need to be patient a little longer, but the beginning is there again.
PS: In the photo, you can see the cymbidium aloifolium, which is the only cymbidium that always blooms in the middle of summer for us. It has very thick leaves and can tolerate a lot of sunlight. We have never had any issues with spider mites or thrips on this plant. However, it's not commercially interesting because it grows very slowly, and its branches grow unevenly.
