Cascade Cymbidium
The botanical parents of the Cascade Cymbidiums that we grow, grow in dead trees and on rock walls, at an altitude of 1500 to 2200 meters in Taiwan, Vietnam and China. Here it is not necessary for the flowers to stick out above the leaves and so the flowers are hanging. This makes the Cascade Cymbidium so special and loved.
The name Cymbidium is probably derived from the Greek word kymbos, meaning “boat” or “hollow.” In this case, it refers to the shape of the flower’s lip. In Asia, the plant is often given to friends as a symbol of friendship and respect. So, when you give a Cymbidium as a gift, you are not only giving a beautiful plant, but also conveying a meaningful message to your loved ones.
The Cascade Cymbidium is a terrestrial orchid. This means that it roots in soil and draws its nutrients from the earth (unlike most orchids, which have aerial roots). It is a very hardy plant that thrives in cooler conditions, making it especially suitable for our climate.
Cymbidiums bloom between October and March, depending on the variety. If placed in the right location, a Cymbidium can flower for as long as two months! To encourage the plant to bloom again the following year, some patience is required. However, with proper care, your Cascade Cymbidium will become more beautiful every year.
In the LZ Orchidee collection by Highlands Potplants, you will find not only botanical species, but also several of our own hybrids.
